Event Details

Prisons may seem like a necessary part of our criminal justice system, but can we imagine a future where incarceration is a thing of the past?

The people in the prison system don't represent the majority of Australians. If there is a problem with the way we’re locking people up, we have to ask ourselves is there another way? What would our society look like if we abolished prisons all together? With a view for a brighter future, join our panel discussion to envision a new way forward with Debbie Kilroy, Meriki Onus, Amanda Watkinson and Robyn Oxley.

This panel is part of our ‘So, what if?’ lunchtime talks series, presented in partnership with The Wheeler Centre.

Wheelchair accessible, Auslan interpretation on request

Date:  Tuesday 21 May, 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Carbon neutral contribution

Melbourne Knowledge Week is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and will be certified carbon neutral for 2019.

This means we will measure the festival’s carbon emissions and implement actions to reduce them. Then we will purchase offsets on your behalf to cover the remaining emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.

Your contribution will go towards a range of offset projects including a reforestation project in NSW and a project which enables Aboriginal communities to reduce emissions through improved land management practices in the Kimberley.

Take action on climate change, act now.
